Great app but I find pricing of extra minutes odd – Pinger: Call + Phone SMS App Review

I recently downloaded this app to use as a back up phone line for business purposes when I do not want to have my personal cell number show up on someone’s caller ID. It automatically came with 60 minutes of free talk time. First let me start off by saying that this app works really well. I have had very little issue with it with the exception of a few dropped calls but I don’t think that was because of the app itself… I believe it was due to either not having a strong Wi-Fi signal or the other party having bad cell service at the time. Also the sound quality is a little muffled or quieter compared to when I call from my regular cell line. It’s almost like it has a little bit of static or something like that. Some of the people sound like they’re holding the phone away from their face when they are talking. It is not terrible… I can still here and I understand what people are saying to me but I do notice the difference in the sound quality. I will say that I am the one making the calls and I don’t typically get incoming calls to the app so I don’t know how quickly it is at with incoming calls. There is a little bit of a delay with incoming texts but nothing crazy. Now about the minutes.... as I said it automatically comes with 60 minutes of talk time and I believe that 60 minutes renews every month. If you want to earn extra minutes you can watch quick 15 to 30 second videos to earn a minute and sometimes two minutes per video. They also have offers to sign up for certain services or to take surveys to earn larger quantities of minutes. I have never signed up for the services or done the surveys because the little bit of investigating that I did in regard to them just seemed like you had to jump through a lot of hoops. Also I was concerned about having my information possibly sold to a third-party so I just avoid those. Then there is the option to purchase minutes. The first option is to purchase 100 minutes for $1.99.... That does not sound too bad. The next option is to purchase 400 minutes for $9.99… That’s the one that I find odd. Typically I have always found that when you have certain levels or amounts of things that you can purchase… The more you purchase the less expensive they will be. So if 100 minutes is $1.99 then you would think 400 minutes would be around $8 or even less. I would be better off purchasing four of the 100 minute packages for $7.96 then to get 400 minutes for around $10. The next package is 1000 minutes for $18.99. That does give you a little bit of a discount but not much. If I could I would suggest possibly offering a little bit of a discount on the 400 minutes. It does not have to be much… like $6.99 maybe. Anyway other than that one issue with the Minutes the app has been very useful. I hope that this review helps in the decision making process. Edit: I have had this app for over a year at this point. I can’t remember when I got it but I remember when I did it had a different name and within a few weeks the name had changed to Pinger. Anyway I had previously said that I thought you would get 60 minutes of free talk time every month. I have not used this app in a few months but would send a text or make a call on it at least once a month to keep my account current. I have started using it more regularly again and it dawned on me that I probably have a couple hundred extra minutes now since I have not really used it but kept the account going. When I went to look I saw that my minutes were the same amount as when I had stopped using the app months ago. I know there has been changes and updates so I’m guessing that they do not give you 60 minutes for free anymore. Even with the 60 free minutes I still had to purchase minutes but if their are no more 60 free minutes a month then I don’t know if I want this app anymore.
