Way too underrated – Wayward Souls Review

Honestly, the money spent on this game was some of the best money i’ve ever spent in the app store. I was bored one day and decided to look up some RPG game in the app store and ended up spending the next couple of hours becoming immersed in the difficult but rewarding gameplay, compelling story, and beautifully eerie and retro soundtrack. The game possesses such elegance and nostalgic charm, it’s difficult not to enjoy it. Sure, it’s sure gotten my blood pumping at some parts and even made me rage quit at a few, but when moving through corridor after corridor, taking hit after hit, one must always keep in mind that it’s all about the journey in Wayward Souls. Each character is fine tuned to match a certain playing style and I love to alternate between them, and discover different ways to use their abilities on various enemies. And don’t even get me started on the enemies. This masterpiece boasts a sprawling bestiary the likes of which could go toe to toe with terraria itself. Coming across hostiles in their respective and beautifully designed areas always keeps me intrigued and alert. And on the areas, it’s always so refreshing and interesting when I discover a unique room in the keep, hallows, or catacombs that has extra loot, more mobs or even fragments of the story in the form or ghosts, notes, lecterns or mini-boss battles. All of these factors, paired with the soundtrack and smooth playability, create a dark and mysterious mood that pulls the player in and keeps them there, needing to find out the story of their characters as well as that of the cursed tower. The writing is great, animation & design; phenomenal, world building; immersive, playability; just difficult enough to keep the player wanting more. The hats? Spectacular! In a nutshell, you can tell how much care and work was put into this project by just three people at RocketCat, and I wish dearly that more people could see and enjoy it. A true masterpiece and a honorable tribute to the eighties dungeon crawler genre. May Dia grant you heath and prosperity! -A devoted fan
