One of the Worst Gatcha Grabs Available – Looney Tunes™ World of Mayhem Review

Edit (Nov 2019): This game has become a blatant cash grab. If you haven’t downloaded the game yet or are just getting started I would highly advise to just stay away. Find yourself a different game to play, preferably one that expects to receive money from the player base because it’s a fun game and not strictly designed to make money at your expense. All meaningful premium currencies have to be dumped in casino-style slot machines (it IS gambling). Edit2: The Apple store should really investigate the reviews for this game as there is NO WAY the high score reviews aren’t being farmed/paid for. I have overall enjoyed this game and the character collecting aspect of it. The campaign was enjoyable for a time. Things go off the rails a bit beyond that. The campaign has had a new region added on in the past year but otherwise has clearly not been a focus of the game, which might be just as well since it doesn’t have much of a story to follow along with. (You quickly forget/don’t care about the intro video which is the only video in the entirety of the game) Brawl (the pvp crate system) has its pros and cons. The materials/rewards for opening crates has been rebalanced over time in such a way to slow down your tuning (powering up) of characters which has the effect of prolonging the game but also with the consequence of making it difficult if not impossible to power up more newly obtained toons. Between the material squeeze and the rapid influx of new characters through events you quickly start to build up a menagerie of characters that you won’t ever touch unless/until they are dubbed required characters for a future event. The arena system is the newest feature and is unfortunately a decent sized mess for numerous reasons (go to the main discord for this game and read through there for the full skinny on that). Obtaining new character pieces is largely predicated on the dreaded freemium classic that is RNG dressed as “reatomizers” and the prize wheels. Otherwise they can be purchased through the in game currency (gems) for prices that I can only assume “whales” go after to get a leg up as they are otherwise outrageously expensive for the value they actually provide. Joining an active alliance with its own discord has breathed some new life into the game for me. I liked would have quit long ago if not for that but this keeps it a bit more interesting/involved. This game would have received a higher 4-star score but it has suffered from some fatal issues that can’t be ignored. Gameplay-wise, the game has been nuked in any facet that involves playing against other players by a self-inflicted balancing issue regarding Speedy Gonzalez who has been generally accepted as overpowered and made worse by a mistake on their part during his event in which most active players in that window obtained a max level version of the character (just search for “speedy” on the discord and you will find plenty of information). They have recently announced that this character will be readdressed soon, so we will see how that goes. The biggest issue, however, has been the parade of bugs that plagues this game. Events run one after the other and each seems to provide a fresh technical issue that players must navigate, report, and hope to be addressed. Quality control/product testing seems to be lacking or non-existent. Worse, some of the same bugs continue to be repeated even despite acknowledgement of their existence for some time. Stability issues with random crashing has also been a hallmark of late. We would think a mobile game backed by WB wouldn’t present design/coding that feels so inept but that is the current state of the game. (That said I am still here playing and hopeful that things will turn around before it gets too unbearable - I just won’t be reaching anywhere my wallet or updating the review score until then. On a related note I find the current average score of 4.7 very hard to believe. Suspicious.)
