"Imaginary Range": A Must-Have App – Imaginary Range Review

If you are serious about your apps, then download "Imaginary Range" right now. Downloaded? Good. While you're waiting for it to load up, let me tell you about why you've just made one of the best app purchases you'll make in some time. Out of all the fantastic apps Square Enix has produced, this one is by far my favorite. It's truly unlike anything else out there, combining the storytelling and artistic elements only possible within graphic novels with the interactive elements only possible in video games to create a cohesive, unique experience.... not quite a visual novel, not quite a minigame collection. On a technical front, "IR" has a lot going for it. The actual comic is quite beautiful, with some impressive set pieces that really show off the lush watercolor environments well. Unfortunately, some of that is hindered by large blocks of text, making it difficult to take anything in. The text itself can also be somewhat tiny and potentially difficult to read, but I personally did not find that a problem. The minigames, on a whole, are great, and are not crammed into places where they would be unnecessary. My personal favorite is the new "Tetris"-esque one introduced in Chapter II; it could easily be released as a stand-alone app. Don't be suprised if you find yourself spending a lot of time playing them. Of course, the minigames are only half of the app, and I'm happy to say that the story delivers. The addition of Chapter II clears up a lot of the confusion and convoltiousness of Chapter I, and adds seceral intriguing plot wrinkles for fans to ponder while we wait for Chapter III. We'll have to wait a bit, too, because you can easily get through both chapters in a few hours. However, you get a lot of bang for your buck considering that the entire app is free. It's been almost a year in the making, but the new and improved version of "Imaginary Range" takes you on a whole new kind of storytelling journey that should satsfy both preexisting fans and pique the interest of new ones. It's certainly an app that's not to be missed. Plus, it's FREE! What could be better than that?
