Good start, horrible ending – Shadow Fight 2 Special Edition Review

Let’s start with the good things about this game. The special addition offers: unlimited energy, no ads, and an ability to acquire gems from fights you wouldn’t be able to get them from in the original, so you’re able to buy special weapons with powerful enchantments. The combat is fun, especially with all the different move sets different weapons have. Buying this version and being able to use those special weapons made me realize that they’re not worth what you have to spend on them in the original. In this version gems are easier to get so it’s not that big of a deal. Buying a weapon or piece of armor with an enchantment is the only way to get equipment with enchantments in this version as well. In this version there’s less of a grind you have to do to progress which is nice. I think that’s it for the good things I found this game. Now let’s get to the meat of the matter; the bad things. To start off, the challenge fights aren’t fun, especially in the late game when the fight modifiers stack onto each other. It’s too stressful to worry about having to fight while worrying about dealing with all the modifiers all at once. Second, some of the abilities you unlock as you level up are near useless.Third, the final boss fight is very poorly designed. The final boss has: attacks that can’t be blocked or dodged, a weapon which hit box is too large, an ability to literally make himself invincible, and the amount of damage you’re able to do compared to the amount of damage needed to beat him, and the amount of damage he does to you is ridiculously unbalanced. The only way I found that works to beat him is to use a close range weapon with a move set reminiscent to a weapon like the knuckles, so you can keep putting pressure on him, and prevent him from attacking. Even then though, he has an attack that is too fast, and I’d wager is just as fast as elbowing an opponent. I’ve beaten the final boss as well, so nobody can say that I’m saying this only because I’m angry I couldn’t beat him. This is an honest review of my experience of the game. The majority of the game is fun, but the final boss fight is awful, and I’m shocked that the developers haven’t balanced it for as long as this game has been available. I like the game, and would give it 4 stars if the final boss fight wasn’t so atrocious. Hopefully the developers see this, and can give some thought into balancing the final boss. Despite all the negative things I found in the game, I like it, and I would recommend this if you prefer games which reward skill, and practice.
