Used to be great. Not anymore. Do not buy!! – FTP Client Pro Review

I’ve had this app for years. I loved being about to use my phone to update the html on my website - something I don’t do that often, just once every few months. But in the last month, it’s broken my website twice. The main thing I do is update the schedule for upcoming dates I’ll be closed (for a holiday or whatever). The first time it broke, I’d gone in to make the same kind of change and upon checking Safari, found all my formatting was gone and special characters were all over the place. Since this had never happened before and I’d been trusting this app for years, I was just in the habit of overwriting with each edit, so I didn’t have a backup. Upon closer inspection, I realized that all of my !-- had been changed to !— so all html commenting was gone and many other things were messed up. I didn’t know what had happened, so I went about trying to fix each one by hand (fortunately it’s less than 200 lines of code) but upon rechecking Safari, what do I see? The same problem! I went through this ordeal once more before realizing that it was this app somehow changing the code on upload since places in the html that I had never even touched were changed! Upon sending a detailed error report email to the developer, I got back a terse reply: “Thank you for your email. iOS 11 introduced a smart punctuation concept, that is the cause of your issue” and a link to a 2 year old article. (By the way, the article says that app developers can disable this functionality in their apps themselves - I guess he didn’t read it. Or doesn’t care.) But how can autocorrect be responsible for changes in code I didn’t touch?? After fixing all this mayhem in another app (on my Chromebook at work and my MacBook Air) I left it alone. I’ve got better things to do than deal with bad apps and dismissive developers. Until now. I just had another update to make, this time removing a single word for a sentence. Not touching the comments, heck not typing anything at all, just deleting 12 characters! And wouldn’t you know it, upon saving and checking Safari, the same thing had happened. All formatting gone. Of course I’d made a backup this time, so I immediately restored it and deleted the corrupted file. And then came here to try to spare anyone else from making the same mistake I did by trusting this app. I’ll be deleting it as soon as I’m done here. I get that mistakes can happen, I used to be a programmer myself. And I can’t imagine the agony of dealing with OS updates that could mess with your product. But I paid for this app and I expect my error report and hours of my wasted time to be met with more than a dismissive reply. This second occurrence was almost a month after his reply to me, so he’s clearly not trying to fix this problem. Like I said, this app used to be great but not anymore! Do not waste your money!! And if anyone knows of a good alternative app to use, please let me know.
