CRR is superb and by far the best out there for parents and coaches – Concussion Recognition & Response: Coach & Pare... Review

As a neuropsychologist, a brain researcher studying the long-term effects of sports-related concussion, and as the parent of athletes, I am writing this review to point out some very important differences between the CRR and another app (“Concussion”) by Sports Safety Labs. In short, the CRR is vastly superior in all aspects of design and use, including easy-to-maneuver screens, valuable and understandable descriptions of how to recognize the symptoms and signs of a concussion, and critical information and guidelines about how to respond quickly and appropriately to the injury. The focus of this app is entirely consistent with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which emphasizes that when it comes to sports-related concussion, the non-medical person should focus on “recognition” (not diagnosis) and “response” (not treatment). In very stark contrast to the CRR, the SSL app is much more appropriate for medical professionals than it is for parents and coaches. The SSL app is similar to the SCAT2 diagnostic tool for concussion that is meant to be used by medically trained personnel and not by untrained parents and coaches. Although for the medically-trained user, the SSL app is good, I strongly feel that the CRR by PAR is a superior app for parents and coaches who may be in the position of recognizing and reporting a possible concussion.
