Great game nerfed by controls. – Ristar Classic Review

I love the original Ristar. It is one of my favorite platformers on the Genesis and a great diversion from the Sonic games. But this version is just not for me. In terms of the performance, it does do a great job. After all, I am playing this on an iPhone 7. However, that isn’t the main issue for me. My problem are the controls! Jumping can be very slippery and be a chore, even if it is a basic challenge. Also, trying to attack is infuriating since it hardly feels like it lands. And the game isn’t hard at all, but this port feels very sloppy in throughout. All in all, it could be considered a matter of preference and the game plays fine for you. But for me, I can’t stand to play it anymore. If you really want to experience the original Ristar, just go out and get it in one of the hundreds of Genesis compilations Sega develop.
