Doesn’t have non-country islands (like Puerto Rico) – Maps of our World Review

While this app is probably good enough for most people, it’s not everything I had hoped it would be. It’s good for countries, capitals, geographic features, if you buy the full map pack, which at $15.00 seemed reasonable for the quality of the app. But I was disappointed to find out that only islands that are also countries can be found here. Which means that you won’t find anything about islands like Puerto Rico, Greenland, Borneo, and Java anywhere on the maps. This isn’t a knock against the app, but it’s too bad that there isn’t a way to selectively choose which countries or cities you want to train on. For example, I’m not so great on the little countries in Europe, but every time I want to train to learn them, I have to also locate Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Russia, etc, which gets tedious after a while, and it makes learning the small countries take at least twice as long, if not more, because the longer it takes to get back to Estonia, the harder it’s going to be for me to remember where it is. So it would be cool if a selective training feature was added where you can pick from a list of the possibilities for that map of the things you actually want to train on. The feature above would be most useful to me, but another idea is the reverse of what this app is. While being given the name and asked to find the country is a good way of learning, the real test is can you identify a country without being given the name of it. So adding a feature where a certain country is highlighted and you have to type in the name would also be awesome, but I get that that might take a lot of retooling in the coding of the app. So if you’re wanting to learn countries, major cities, this app will be great for you, but if you want something that’s comprehensive, you won’t quite get that here, but it is still a sleek app with a lot of content, and I haven’t had any problems with the app itself at all. I’m just disappointed that I’m going to have to look elsewhere to learn islands.
