Digital dumpsterfire that also sells your data! YAY! – Autolist - Used Cars for Sale Review
***CAUTION*** this app harvests and sells your data at best. And harvests and sells your data and then fleeces you at worst.
Visionary: "You know those free car magazines at the store?"
VC: " The ones that are page after page of spammy ads?"
Visionary: "Yep. Except we've combine them all into a single APP!"
VC: "Its a start. But we can do better force the user to give us their email first. Then we can still monetize them after they delete the app. when they figure out that it's ads for a list of auto ads.."
Visionary: "list of autos...I will call it...Autolist"
-possible quote from the Autolist pitch meeting
Kidding aside, these are the red flags I spotted:
*app reviews are largely faked
*The banner promises "the best deals". Notice it doesn't say who gets that "best deal". Hint: it ain't you
*The used cars listed here are sold by unscrupulous "buy here, pay here" aka "tote the note" types. Meaning, at best, you will be the unlucky 123rd owner of a vehicle you paid 8-10x the value of.
*All new cars are at the top end of the MSRP I didn't spend much time there because I didn't want to get eye cancer
If you insist on throwing your money away, cut out the middleman and just go direct to your local car dealership. You'll still get fleeced but, at least your email and data won't be sold to car dealerships and spammers across the planet. Which is absolutely what these jokers are doing. Why else do you think they make you give them your email to even see the app.
I had low expectations when I installed this digital dumpsterfire, and they still somehow sunk below them.
