It’s OK ? – Utopia: Origin Review

Updating my review now that I’ve played for 3 months: At best this game is okay. I have been playing in peace mode because the pvp mechanics are mediocre, the game crashes often, and there is usually lag. However, peace mode has its own issues such as the inability to prevent other players from stealing a chest you waited 3 hours to open. But once lvl 60 is released, at least nobody can raid your home and steal all your months of hard work like they can in Chaos mode. The world is very bright and colorful, which is one of the things I like most about this game. Nighttime tends to have terrible vision due to how dark it gets and the music goes from being pleasant to a tune that really clashes with the others and does not sound good imo. Most of your time will be spent gathering resources which gets very old and repetitive the further along you get. Leveling up is so easy that it doesn’t take long to surpass level restrictions which has caused a lot of problems with everyone trying to get the same limited resources/animals. And to make matters worse, players will spawn camp things to prevent others from ever getting them, or even kill rare creatures that take 7 days ( crazy I know ) to respawn just so you can’t get them. Some items take 12 hrs to respawn and you need at least 200 to tame something, but chances are after months of fighting others to get that much the animal you tame will have generated the worst stats it could have. ?‍♂️ But don’t worry, if you actually manage to tame all the things you want, then you won’t have anything else to do, so maybe it is best to take forever and just never achieve it. Once you’ve been to each island at least once there is nothing more to exploration, and the survival aspects are laughable. Food is super easy to come by, water is plentiful, and every monster/animal has an easily dodged attack. It is a very easy game in that regard. Most choose to play in Chaos mode because the only real challenges to survival come from other players. Highly recommended to play with others as it doesn’t have enough content to make for an interesting solo game. Speaking of content: craftables are extremely limited so you don’t have many options on house styles nor furniture to make, there is no character customization aside from choosing the color of your “underwear”, your hairstyle, and your gender ( no skin tone or facial features ), and you cannot change or delete a character after making them so don’t make a mistake! Oh, and you’ll be searching online for how to do anything because nothing gets explained in the game and there’s no handy feature like a recipe book for everything you can cook. Sorry that this is so long, I wanted to cover as much as I could. I recommend giving it a try if it interests you, and who knows maybe future updates will add enough content that it becomes an awesome game. But for now, it’s okay. ?
