My very first review .. 2 Stars – Swords and Sandals 2 Redux Review

The game is fun. I bought the Maximus Edition because I knew that I’d enjoy it since I loved the flash version many years ago. I beat the game on normal and turned a blind eye to all the bugs along the way. Now I’m trying to beat it on Hard and I’ve ran into too many issues. - Enemies are able to stack their turns (I hit them once, they hit back then get another turn to hit/move). - For the second time, my character died even though I clearly killed the opponent (they’re dismembered on the floor and I’m well-alive as if I’ve won). These two issues alone have ruined the game for me. It’s not fun getting to 6/7 in a tournament to die when you’ve actually won. Here’s a few more things I’ve come across: - You can back out to the town if you view an ad before a match and cancel right away. This allows you to make purchases in between tourney matches. - At some point the game lets you win. There’s been plenty of times where I’ll hit 3 exact hits of 370 on the tournament champion to get the kill without even touching their armor (they’re supposed to be stronger - and how is this fun?). - There’s a huge issue with scaling. After the first 10 or so levels, you don’t really look at the weapons shop anymore because any item there is complete trash (more than -5) compared to the weapons you get from winning tournaments. Even the weapons that are supposed to be unlocked 5 levels from your current level. - When picking an item after winning a tournament, the weapon doesn’t disclose what level is required to equip it. Sure it’s +59 but if it’s available after 7 more levels isn’t that important? - During combat, it seems like my character sleeps for more than what is needed to replenish his energy. He sleeps for 2-3 turns and by that time the ridiculous enemy I’m put up against swings me into the spikes since their strength is twice that of mine. - There’s also no clear way to avoid getting killed by spikes or trying to kill someone with spikes. - Putting a level requirement on tournaments is useless since they’re all unlocked by the time we finish the one we’re in. This makes normal arena matches for gold/xp very redundant. It punishes the user for getting stronger in the sense that they’re always in “tournament mode” and can never catch a break just to prepare for the next. Instead, we’re thrown right into the next where the enemies are clearly out of our league and then end up losing gold. I figured I’d leave my first ever review to this game since I truly hope it gets better with time. Thank you for bringing a childhood classic to iOS and I hope my feedback was constructive.
