Welcome Alternate to Football Manager! – Soccer Tycoon: Football Game Review

This is lengthy with maybe a few of my tips. This game is fantastic. It hits things, in my opinion as to what makes a great game...depth + simplicity. This game is a welcome diversion to the Football Manager series, when you are wanting a simpler game, that you can go through seasons quickly. First, I truly enjoy the fact that real leagues, teams, crests, ground names, competitions, etc. are already in the game (no real players). Second, I enjoy the fact that transfers are straightforward and easy. There is no option for training schedules, and players develop based on specific staff ratings and player potential. This helps save time. There is no in-game management, which can be viewed as a negative, but I personally like the building of a club and simulating straight to the match result. The more I’ve played (going on my 30th season), I’ve come to notice that the teams that have higher rated players do win more often, while there is the occasional “upset”. Finances are an obstacle at the start, but that should be expected when you take over a club that is in a country’s third division, or lower. Throughout the seasons you receive “investment money” if you watch an ad. If you do not watch, no money. They start at low dollar amounts but increase as your squad is more successful and promotes to higher divisions. I would recommend buying the in-app purchase, on this. Doing so removes ads and still gives you the investment money. A real nice way to give you extra money, to invest in players or facility upgrades. I’ve seen reviews complaining about finances and not being able to compete because of debt. Well, welcome to lower league football. Watch the ads (or do the in app purchase as suggested). Invest in young players that are cheap and invest in facilities that help develop them. Sell them at peak value and restart the cycle. Over time, you’ll have banked enough profit to finally buy that one or two higher rated players that you need. Be financially smart. You will not need a roster of 50+ players to win. That just eats at your money due to a high wage bill. My team is built for a 4-4-2 formation and I have 26 players, with 6 of them out on loan. This is not a game that will see you progress immediately, unless you are a bit lucky and very astute at investing. Have patience. Overall this game is almost perfect for those that want depth, without too much thinking, combined with speed of getting through seasons. A side note about the in-app ad purchase. I had a situation where it did not work. One e-mail to the developers and it was resolved within a few hours of them getting back to me, with a troubleshoot. Accessible, quick, and resolved. Just fantastic. I look forward to future games Top Drawer Sports are looking into developing and hope that they may some day hit a college football sim.
