Finally - An app to replace my Garmin! – Runmeter Running & Walking GPS Review

For a while I’ve considered retiring my Garmin 305. I’ve used that for years with the Garmin training center desktop app and liked the data I saw on the device and loved the ability to track the detailed workout data on the app. Garmin stopped supporting the app years ago. And with each os upgrade it got flakier. I also was wanting to ditch the chest strap heart rate monitor. Most of the replacement Garmin options were either expensive and or the device seemed to be outdated. Plus, you have to search for faces to present the data you want to see. I wanted to consider a Apple Watch, but their workout didn’t provide the data I wanted to see. Runmeter is the missing link. It provides an easy way to define screens by tweaking one of theirs or define your own. That coupled with the accuracy of the Watch Series 4 (gps version) biometrics, gps, and other data made this a solid choice. But then you have all the smart Watch features on top of this! I prefer the iPad interface for viewing my workouts. The larger display just is easier for me than the iPhone version, but I do use the iPhone for setting up the watch. I just sync it over using iCloud. I like how the data is presented and the user interface was fairly easy to learn and navigate—but I am a techie. A few criticisms—sharing the data between devices should be more seamless. Also, importing my old workout data was painful as it can only import a single workout at a time, some each had to be saved and imported separately. But, that’s a one time adventure. I am very satisfied with Runmeter plus the Apple Watch as a replacement for my Garmin over buying a new 935 or Fenix 5. At 53gm (44mm aluminum version plus silicone sport band), It’s much lighter than the Fenix 5 and just a few grams over the 935. And again, you are getting more general features. Overall, I have been very pleased with the iPad app and now with the Watch app. For the price, the Elite version is a bargain, especially as you get iPad, iPhone, and Watch for a single price.
