Faithful to the story and innovative with fun events, but the gacha... – Bungo Stray Dogs: TotL Review

As a long-time fan of Bungo Stray Dogs, I was so happy to see that the mobile game was being released in English and downloaded it the day it was released. Now that it’s been a few months, I’d like to share my thoughts~ Gameplay is rather simple, with the goal being to clear the lower screen of as many orbs as possible to inflict the most damage. While it can feel a little repetitive at times, the level of the stage can introduce different mechanics that make it a little interesting—and pending the level of the stage, can take some strategy to minimize damage and deal the most damage. Though a smaller thing, like some others I was a little uncomfortable by seeing the intial Beatdown mechanic labeled as “Kamikaze” in the beginning; I was really enthusiastic to see that it was changed not long after the game’s release. The main story is faithful to the anime series I’ve noted, and while there hasn’t been too many events thus far, I’ve found the event storylines to be quite fun and engaging. I’m really interested to see what other event storylines will occur! If I do have any complaints, it’s between the gacha system to collect characters and the ability stones. The gacha rates in pulling characters (especially SSR characters) feels incredibly low in comparison to what the posted rates are—especially for limited edition characters, who supposedly have higher rates. Maybe my luck is just horrible, but between three of the limited edition gachas, I’ve spent about 2100 stones (92~ character pulls) and have gotten literally one limited edition character (an SR, but with a ticket no less). There is the option of using 200 paid stones for a limited edition gacha that guarantees one SSR among 11 character pulls but... where I live, that’s practically $40, which feels like a little too much. These issues aren’t so much as a gamebreaker for me though—it’s just incredibly frustrating at times. Overall though, I am enjoying this game a lot—especially the updates and events so far. I’m really excited to see what else is planned for the future.
