what happened??? – Tastemade Review

i used to love this app. the recipes are good quality and unique and the videos are aesthetically pleasing and easy to follow. almost every single recipe i use comes from here, and one of my favorite things was how most of the videos were free - emphasis on WERE. the app started going downhill after the design was updated. i enjoyed being able to shuffle through endless videos without even touching the screen, but after the app was updated, i was forced to watch the same freaking zillow ad before every recipe and couldn’t just swipe through videos. yes, i understand that a lot of tastemade’s money comes in from ads. and no, i don’t mind ads when i’m getting something for free, but some variety would’ve been nice. and it also would’ve been great if you actually explained that you were changing the design in the update description instead of saying “we’re constantly trying to make your experience better,” because honey, you did not make my experience any better. but my biggest issue is the most recent update. here i am going onto the app in hopes of finding something quick and gluten free to make for dinner when a little notification pops up telling me i only have 4 more free videos for the rest of the month. y’all, what? only 5 videos a month? i don’t even get a preview of the recipes to see if i have any of the ingredients? don’t get a mere description of the video i’m clicking on besides “gluten free buffalo chicken tenders”? again, i know tastemade is a growing company with people that need to be paid, and i have no problem paying for recipes, but the way this was handled did feel like a bit of a trick. i don’t want to pay $7.99 a month for plus when i’d only be using the recipes. i don’t need unlimited saves or access to cooking classes, invite-only events, and live tv. why should i be forced into buying a plan i don’t need? maybe tastemade should consider a “token system” where you can buy 6 tokens for $0.99 and “premium” videos cost 3 token. or maybe they should create a plan for just videos without the live tv, access to events, and unlimited saves that costs only $4.99 a month. or maybe the videos can cost money but written recipes are free. but, if you are looking for a good recipe app and don’t mind spending some money, i do recommend this app. but, if you’re like me and don’t have $7.99 a month to spare on nonsense, i would just stick with the Tasty app.
