Great idle game – Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Review

Edit: They really screwed up with the dueling club. I have higher courage, empathy and knowledge than my opponents, yet somehow they have twice as many hp as I do (~80 compared to my 40) and consistently do more damage than I do (15-20 compared to my 10-15). This means my opponent can win in two or three hits while it takes me six to eight hits - as long as they don't heal... Once more, this does not make any sense since I have higher stats (I am at 20 everything and they have 14-16). Why even include this in the game if you want it to be near impossible to win? It feels like Who's Line Is It Anyway - everything is made up and your points don't matter. ------------ Original review: Let me repeat, this is an idle game. If you want action, this is not for you. The game revolves around a character (you) from a few years before harry. In one of the opening scenes, the headmaster completely breaks the story immersion by saying, "the boy who live will not be here for a few years." Aside from that awful line of dialog, I like how the story is going. I am in year three (where there is another break in immersion with a new "friend" that comes from no where). I actually do not like the main character. He/she constantly puts friends in danger with little remorse. There is one graphics glitch where he punches a Gryffindor girl in the head in charms class. He also laughs in the "evil" character’s face during flight class. I would not choose to do any of those things if I had full control. The evil character seems very misunderstood and is slotted as a generic bully. I would like the option to be more accepting instead of hoarding all of the friends and shunning the bully. Overall it has a good story and is a well made idle game. There are mini games to break things up. More variety of mini games would be a plus and further set this apart from other idles. For now, I love how I can play for a couple of minutes and then put it down until later. The paid options are mostly for character customization. They do not shove paid content down your throat, which is a nice change from the norm.
