Fantastic game. Horrible Graphic “Update”. Workaround to restore the good graphics described below. – Neuroshima Hex Review

I have owned this game for years it seems. I play several games a day and once I discovered that I could REVERSE the awful graphics update and because I could I ended up buying all of the additional armies up to that time and they all appeared in the older classic look. All of the new armies are great and add unique game play options except maybe the Dancer which seems to be the army that even the Ai hates above all others. It is the favoured “Gang up on and KILL!” army. Mississippi and Sharrash are especially fun. With regard to the problem of the “graphic update”. It really destroyed my enjoyment…it was a gut level turn off which I have never experienced in a game before. I stopped playing it completely as the look is now insipid, and I feel sorry for all of the new players who have no option other than to use it. The developers should have given the OPTION to change to the more modern tile set, instead of foisting it on us. It has been investigated by various people and there is NO legal reason that they had to change the tiles. They just did it and the game is much worse for it. I got the old board and tiles back but only because I had a time machine back up with the old version in it as well as an earlier iTunes version which enables you to install apps from your Mac. Sadly the newer iTunes no longer do this but there is still a very well hidden page on the Apple web site that enables you to get the last version of iTunes that supports managing your iOS devices from your computer. So I deleted the game off my iPad, and replaced the app from my back up. Then I reinstalled the game again from the iTunes app and I had the game back as it should be, and went back to playing it many times a wee. I then discovered I can buy the armies without updating the game to the horrible graphics so I ended up BUYING THEM ALL. If the designers are reading this should wake you up…the redesign has cost you goodwill by the games fans and also likely money in add on sales. I hope they update it so you can opt for the older tiles, and then start improving the Ai. Btw the latest army, Uranusoids or something, is not available if you stick to the old graphics. I have emailed the developers asking to give us the option for either tile set in a future release as I will definitely buy new armies on the sole condition I can retain the old graphic style look to the game.
