All-around best designed app – Podcast & Radio - iVoox Review

*Update Jul 9 2018: removing a star because they’ve added very annoying audio commercials that play when you start or resume listening to a podcast after pausing (though they don’t always play; it’s inconsistent) After getting frustrated with Apple's Podcasts, I tried one podcast app after another to find a replacement. iVoox is the winner. It may not be the prettiest but it’s the only one to have all the features that I consider basic: there’s a login, so your subscriptions are saved even if you lose or have to delete the app, and you can access them on the website as well you can see a running list of new espisodes from all your subscriptions (unlike some other apps where you have to click on each podcast individually to look at new epsiodes.) you can see a list of all episodes you’ve downloaded. (Apple’s podcast app is missing this very basic feature, so you have to hunt around to find your downloads) when you’re viewing/listening to an episode, you can click to go to the main listing for the podcast, to see the description and other episodes. Amazingly, not every app lets you do this (e.g. Castbox). clear display of titles and descriptions. Some apps provide very little space for these, so if there are more than a few words, you have to press on each one to bring up the whole title/description … if they even let you do that. Clear, simple navigation. Better than Apple’s app in this regard. They didn’t ruin it with stupid features/bugs like certain other apps do, such as auto-streaming the next episode whether you want to or not, or having to start playing an episode you found in a search before you can even view the complete description (as in Podbean). Although they have some ads, they’re not intrusive like “The Podcast App”’s full-screen pop-ups. I only had 2 problems with the app: Getting it in English. The trick is you have to have the language setting for the iPhone itself set to UK English. If it’s on US English, the app will be in Spanish. I hope they’ll fix this in a future release. There were a couple of podcasts I couldn’t find on here. One of them, although it didn’t come up when I searched, I was able to get when I input the URL directly. The other I couldn’t. I contacted support and they said they’re adding it and it will show up soon.
