Excellent! – Metron (Pro Metronome) Review

Where do I start...this metronome leaves so little to wish for. You can tap along to music to find out its tempo (use the tap pad, which is visible in portrait mode at the bottom center, with the little happy man SintraWorks logo in it), or simply tap a tempo to set the metronome tempo. (Not sure why the previous commentator did not find it, since it is so obviously there, and listed as a feature right here in the iTunes app entry.) Simple traditional practicing is as easy as with any well-designed metronome, but you get so much more if you need greater flexibility. The control over ways to vary beat speed and beat patterns (rhythm) is virtually endless. There is a large array of controls, but efficiently implemented and laid out. Since the default values are so well chosen, you only need to change those controls that are appropriate for the task at hand. And if, in spite of the intuitive interface anything is unclear, there is even an integrated user guide behind the About tab to dispel any remaining doubts. Many practical adjustments can be made in an instant, but if you want, you can spend some time essentially creating your own, well, compositions. I could list so much of what's possible, but quite a few of the previous commentators have already touched on the possibilities, so I'll keep it very short: if you want near absolute control over your metronome, this is it. I'm so chuffed a developer rethought metronome design from the musician's perspective, so we can wield all that power in a way that makes musical sense. I really have only one feature on my wish list for Metron: setlists, but I've been told that is already in the works. (And, in a way, very basic setlist behaviour is already available trough the list of sequences.) One last thing: the developer proved to be very responsive and appears to enjoy direct feedback from customers.
