4/18/18 STILL Won’t accept wifi as net connection – Newsmeister: A Daily News Trivia Quiz Review

UPDATE 4/19/2018: I thought all the great changes have been made this time after the 2/2 update that would reject Wi-Fi as an Internet connection, and I didn’t mind there was now only 12 questions on the re-design, but as soon as I got to the last screen (playing as a guest) that said “invite friends” and “good job”, I back arrowed to return and the same old pop-up came up that said “check your Internet connection” of which I knew I had because I just played the game and it was over Wi-Fi. I haven’t tried it signing in with an account, so it may or may not do that if you create an account, but it shouldn’t force you to create one just to get rid of this false error message it was designed to splash at you! It seems that the app is still trying to get you to connect to the phone tower, and hence the phone’s information, and tries to tell you that you have no Internet connection while over Wi-Fi when you truly do have an Internet connection. Hopefully this is an OVERSIGHT while redesigning the app again, and if it isn’t fixed in the very near future and it’s happening to YOU, you’ll know it was intentionally put there for a reason you may not like. (Slightly older update below that was before the 4/18/18 app redesign.) Update/Response: I DID update and try it, and it’s a crappy update. First, that incessant pop up in everyone’s face everywhere you turn asking you to register or sign in that will apparently happen 179 more times as a guest until you DO register/connect is something new and quite annoying. That’s some way to treat a “guest.“ You should be handing out awards to any user who puts up with that 179 times. Second, users should try going into the general settings and fiddling with that, because using the sliders to deselect items they don’t want, such as inviting friends or receiving notifications from you, results in the inability to use the app with those features selected in the off position if they are using Wi-Fi! You instantly get a pop-up that says “check your Internet connection” because they want you on the phone connection and won’t accept your Wi-Fi connection that doesn’t permit access to the information on your phone in the same way the mobile connection does. Apparently, the information you’re sucking out of peoples devices is so important to you that you don’t permit them to fully use it over Wi-Fi that blocks the direct phone connection UNLESS they agree to (over Wi-Fi) receive notifications and all the other things on the list. Users should try out what I’m saying… Go to General settings, and slide all those sliders that are disguised as actual options to the left, and you will see you will not even be able to save those changes If you are on a Wi-Fi connection. Also, and I’m not sure anyone would really complain about this if they’re ambitious to the point of not wanting to challenge themselves and are operating on pure greed, but chopping the game in half to only eight questions and still keeping the same number of 3X “Bonus points” on the board sort of dilutes the “yay, I found the bonus” experience if 50% of the squares are giving you a bonus (now it’s more of a “damn, this one wasn’t a bonus but odds are the next one will be“ experience). Third, I believe the full-page ads at the end of the game (which will now double if you want to stick around to play 32 questions) are a little bit overdoing it considering there’s an ad banner on the app the whole time as well. Lastly, checking out the leaderboards shows that “Newsmeister” is the Global Leader. (Seriously????????) What kind of a user is going to embrace a leaderboard system when they know they will never get to the top slot of #1 unless they can figure out if it’s even possible to knock the developer out of that slot? C’mon, that’s like the scoutmaster entering his own organized cubscouts pinewood derby every year with his perfectly built homemade car and always taking home the first place trophy, then handing out the rest of the awards to the kids. It’s also a little laughable as to how you can even accomplish that 1st place feat when you’re the ones putting the questions and answers in the app in the first place. PRIOR REVIEW: I decided not to update, so right in the MIDDLE of my game today, they designed one of the “questions“ to be a hopefully forced update! The “question” part of it at the top said the app will not be supported after Feb 4 if I don’t update, And then all the answers at the bottom were “update now” so that if I wanted to continue my game, I had to click on the button that automatically updated that app right in the middle of my game. That kind of in-your-face arrogance will not be rewarded and the app is being deleted. PS: Nobody likes the now newly designed truncated 8-question little crappy app, as you can see from all the comments, so who knows what you were thinking when you decided to make this a mini three-minute game Instead of a halfway decent trivia game. Sometimes developers need to know when to leave well enough alone.
