490 MB cellular data spent – My Data Manager VPN Security Review

Under settings/cellular the app spent 490 MB of data in 2 days. How is that possible. And I can see that amount in the app itself. If it is the data which flows through the app just for the data tracking purpose it shouldn't be listed as cellular data used. I checked my cellular providers data and it confirmed that usage too. This app should just track the data used not use the data by itself isn't it. Does this have to do with the VPN connection the app uses. I don't know there is not much explanation about the VPN connection in the support page either.
