Like Wire... Want to Love It – Wire • Secure Messenger Review

Wire has many things going for it over Signal, but missing some key things. - I wish Wire team would directly address the alleged security flaw introduced in 2014 that would allow a MITM attack on video and voice calls, rather than tap dancing around the issue and/or providing ad hominem attacks on the person who raised those concerns. They need to address it head on and say definitively whether or not there was a vulnerability, and if so who it affected and for how long. Without steps like that I don’t have any confidence in current and future vulnerabilities being found, fixed and responsibly disclosed. - what is this annoying beeping during video calls and why are they so unstable it needs to happen? - give users more control over alert sounds. I simply don’t hear message notifications at times because of the little click sound. May be good for some situations when discretion is needed but if I’m home and the phone is across the room I simply don’t hear it. - There is no way to totally disconnect from another user/contact. They need a way to just “unfriend” not block, etc. - there should be a message timer option for a week expiry. Sometimes a day is just not enough. - calls and other things logged between users do not expire and thus create an unwanted log of activity that needs to be manually deleted and can only be removed on one end of the conversation. If my messages are deleting after seconds or minutes why would I want our call logs to remain indefinitely? Would be amiss if I didn’t mention some very good points about Wire: no need for access to contacts list like Signal demands. Can use same account on multiple devices, that is, log in with email address rather than phone number- provides more anonymity and thus security. Nice interface.
