Total Garbage – Blackboard Classroom K12 Review

I’ve used blackboard for the past three years, as my school has 100% of their online and offline classes required to use a mobile connected site. To me, Blackboard has always been a useful tool, however that stopped entirely when I downloaded iOS 11, and the original Blackboard App didn’t function anymore. It would seem that the Blackboard group just doesn’t care about their product, as the new “blackboard” app is one of the most convoluted piece of trash I’ve had to deal with. The landing page tells you to put in your school’s class’ URL, but only if it uses this weird Moodle site. WELL, as it turns out, MOST SCHOOLS DON’T use that Moodle site. Follow that rabbit hole regardless, in your attempts to TRY to get your blackboard to work, and you’ll get moodle’s troubleshooting page. Their “solution” is to have us, as students, talk to the network administrators of our schools to have the ENTIRE SCHOOL SYSTEM rewritten to be compatible with the Moodle site. Now, call me crazy, but I do not believe that my and MANY OTHERS’ schools are going to entirely rewrite their webpages just to appease the update of one app. BLACKBOARD, IF YOUR CORPORATE SHILLS READ REVIEWS, YOU SCREWED UP BAD. Just PORT the old app to be compatible with iOS 11, or drop the Moodle trash and make your app easier to mesh itself to the multitude of schools who use it- don’t expect all these instructions to bend over backwards for your trash product. Lastly, again, I say all this out of a place of frustration having been a user for a number of years- this is currently making my life harder as this semester I’ve gone fully online with my classes, and now I can’t use the app at work- I’ve got to load a webpage and deal with the webpage version of Blackboard (buggy on mobile) to try to read my assignments. Whoever wrote the 5/5 review is obviously a paid reviewer, or otherwise a member of their team who’ve taken it upon themselves to write a good review. It’s depressing and terrible what’s gone down with the “new blackboard app”.
