Piece of ... work! – Equalizer Review

This is a revision of my previous one star review. The app did not work first try, however it does work, and works pretty well. The best feature is the bode plot EQ that lets you adjust the frequency response using several points representing high pass, low pass, and several peak filters you can stretch in the frequency domain and also raise or lower in magnitude at a center frequency. These are then summed by super-position into a resultant response. 1. Wish customized frequency responses would be automatically associated with the song they were created on, or the preset selected for it. You can save the custom responses you create, but that is not as frictionless as this suggestion. 2. The UI is a bit dated and could be easier to navigate. 3. It would be nice to see the song's native frequency spectrum overlaid on the bode plot along with the adjustable frequency response. 4. Sometimes the app locks up or something violating-Nyquist-sounding screeches out of the speakers and the app needs to be shut down and restarted. Overall, this EQ engine is powerful, and this app could be made wonderful with a little work. The automatically adjustable preamp is also a keen feature that prevents clipping and distortion. Ditch the iOS EQ presets tool (crappy, like almost everything else iOS) and hear your music with something like this app (I've tried many)! It can make a big difference in your music enjoyment and fidelity (limited, of course, by the song's original recording methods and the ADC used in its digitization, and the iPhone's internal audio DAC).
