High quality but disappointing when compared to series – Enigmatis: The Shadow of Karkhala - Hidden Object Review

I loved Maple Creek and Ravenwood and eagerly looked forward to the third in the series. Unfortunately, it did not measure up to my past experience and expectations. First, there are many more HOP than puzzles. Although the HOP are somewhat varied in complexity and style, I prefer to have more mini games, which was the case with the first two installments. Second, this game is substantially shorter, not just as compared against the series, but than the majority of Big Fish games. I completed it in just over two hours. The bonus chapter added less than a half hour of play. The graphics and soundtrack are beautiful, and gameplay is seamless. The cultural details were intriguing. Still, I found it hard to empathize with the characters, possibly because the game was too short to become engaged. Finally, there are different sets of collectibles, but these are not mapped during or after the game, so it is impossible to find out what you missed. I could not give this game three stars because of the top-notch development that Artifex Mundi always provides, but this is a very lackluster 4 star rating.
