A long way off – Wyvern Review

I would caution new players and interested people to take the 5 star reviews with a grain of salt. Many of these reviews are left by players who played Wyvern back when it was a PC game over five years ago. These people are no doubt ecstatic and excited to be a part of this game again and feel that leaving subjective reviews of the game is supportive of the creator. My main issues with the game are: loot and economy system and questing or missions. The loot system as it is is a joke. The player's ability to gain experience versus his ability to gain or make money is so disproportionate that many players, especially those who weren't around five plus years ago hit a wall preventing their progression in the game. Another terrible aspect of this is how the economy is implemented, there is limited trade between players. Items can only be bought once, meaning they can't be resoled. Players also can't buy items from other players 8 levels below them. The creator of the game claims that this was done in part to prevent current players from transferring gold and high level weapons and armor to their new characters. This would be believable if in app purchases for gold didn't exist. What the creator is essentially telling you is that he takes issue with you giving your new characters gold and weapons but doesn't mind you paying him real money so that your new characters can have gold. This isn't too surprising, many mobile apps' success hinge upon in app purchases and in order to do so they must breed frustration in their respective playerbases so that they perceive the in app purchase as some form of a value. Quests: Quests in this game are equally awful. Many rely on complete randomization in order to be solved. Why are quests important you might be wondering? Quests sometimes reward the player with items but always have something called quest points which is essential for leaderboards and even more essential to progressing past every 5th player level. You have to do quests to progress or if you don't want to there is one option to skip them: in app purchases. You can pay for premium currency with real money in order to buy in game quest points so that your character can continue its progression. If this sounds a bit ridiculous its because it is. This game has vast potential to become an App Store juggernaut, unfortunately there are things such as the loot system and quest system that hold it back from being a truly great game.
