Good story – Era of Samurai: Code of Love Review

First, I'd like to state that these stories aren't really like Hakuoki. Despite being based on the Shinsengumi, EoS:CoL isn't supernatural. It's also a lot less dark and depressing when it comes to endings, so please treat it like a separate story and stop comparing it to Hakuouki. Also, the coin system. First of all, of you understand the system, you would know that you have to create a username and password under transfer data on the start page. I'm assuming the system is for stopping hacks. You can restore purchases by logging in if you've got a new device or if you needed to reinstall the app. Also, you don't have to purchase coins beforehand. You can just pay for the story like on any other voltage app for the standard price of $3.99 for each main story/sequel. Onto the actual stories. I really liked Okita's route the best! Hijikata's was a close second, though I thoroughly enjoyed his sequel in the second season. Saito's route was okay but predictable and lacking in Heart-pounding scenes. Overall, the characters in EoS:CoL are wonderfully developed. I particularly liked how their ideologies shape the plot and how the main character actually has character development instead of merely acting as a support for the love interest; especially in Hijikata's case, I feel like the MC and the love interests helped each other grow. That being said, I didn't like Shin's route. It was boring, he wasn't a great character imo, and I don't like how the Shinsengumi and Hijikata were portrayed as villains. I love the idea in Shin's route that everyone is fighting for justice but with different ideas in mind. However, I feel like this moral is ruined because Voltage had to make someone into the bad guy. Well, I don't care if Shin is an irredeemable murderer...? That's just part of his character. I would have preferred the MC to develop more complexly than have the story try to spin Shin into a better man. Moreover, the stuff with Hijikata was simply unnecessary and a waste. I didn't like his route at all, which is a shame because Shin is a very interesting character. His route is just poorly written and left a sour taste in my mouth.
