Almost great— please put on the finishing touches! – WordHue Review

I recently discovered WordHue and I'm a little obsessed with it, though not exactly sure why. Maybe because I don't quite understand the scoring but sometimes get everything just right and score super high. Maybe because the interface is pretty. Maybe because I figure out something new almost every day. I've deleted and reinstalled the game twice just to start over with the color schemes as I learned. Unfortunately there are some problems with the game's functionality that need to be fixed for this app to be successful. Swiping letters to draw words sometimes lags, creating too short words that go black for the penalty. Occasionally the game freezes all together and has to be restarted, sometimes more than once. The sound effects on swiping words randomly change. The dictionary desperately needs an update— it's missing tons of standard words. The scoring needs better explanation and it's hard to tell if some words score correctly or not. For instance, I just noticed the same word re-scores (doesn't count as duplicate) as long as one letter in the word is on a different tile. So where adjacent tiles are the same letter, I can get a lot of extra points for re-using the same word (though that can bite you on the butt and end the game, too). Is this intentional or an error? Who knows... All I know is I keep playing. That tells me this game has great potential. If the Developer spends some time refining this one, he could have a hit. And I hope he does because frankly, it gets harder and harder to find a decent new word game. I don't want to play with friends. I don't want to use Facebook. I don't want to be limited by "energy." I don't want to play levels that aren't random but instead require paid power-ups. I do want to be challenged. I do like leaderboards and achievements and Game Center. I do happily pay for additional level packs when I like a game.
