Fantastic Game Destroyed By Greed – Dungeon Boss Review

I loved this game. I spent over $4000 on it in four months. I built out my roster, buffed up my guild, and had a ridiculous amount of fun. You could play casually and dabble, or you could focus intensely on the strategy of which heroes to deploy in what order to beat an opponent... and yes, you could pay money to get a jump on your competition. For a couple hundred bucks you could boost a new hero all the way to maxed out. Not cheap, but not a mortgage payment if you really enjoy the game. The change to the portal dynamics ruined all of this. The benefit of paying to level up has been watered down by a factor of 5 or more. I dropped $300 on the newest pair of heroes and didn't get them a third of the way to maxed out. Over 75% of the money I spent was diverted to the new "Aether" currency by giving me tokens for heroes I already had maxed out. That 75% of my money was converted into about 10,000 Aether... where the less expensive hero needs over 800,000 Aether to max out. So in exchange for giving up two thirds of a hero I could have starred up, I got ONE PERCENT of the way to maxing out a different hero. For players who are willing to support the developers, this is a disgusting slap in the face, devaluing their existing currency and keeping prices high while turning the in-game currency to garbage. For players who aren't willing to pay, maxing our your roster is now completely out of the question. The game has always been openly greedy, steadily increasing the number of "features" you need to grind on (or pay for) to stay ahead. But this change drops the value of our existing efforts by a factor of a hundred. It's beyond greed, it's flat out abuse of the time and devotion players have invested in this game. I love supporting developers for making great entertainment... and this is the first game I have asked for a refund for.
