Bon Voyage! "Harmonium" is Harmonious! – Amaranthine Voyage: The Obsidian Book - A Hidden Object Adventure (Full) Review

A snowy game for the end of the winter season! The graphics are beautiful and clear with many vibrant, neon, and pastel-like colors accentuating a sci-fi, fantasy oriented environment. The artwork contains wintry scenes as you sledge through ruins of temples and statues creating a sort of mysterious vibe. You use a Harmonium Collector to give you special powers, such as mending broken objects; you charge it by adding crystals. There are three modes of difficulty, but there is no option to customize your settings. The inventory is labeled, interactive, and puzzle like; items will require assembly. The fast teleport map, located through the menu, indicates tasks and/or available actions if applicable; locations are labeled on the map as well. There is no journal, but you read snippets of info as you progress. There is no back button as well. The HOS are varied and interactive. Some are completed in sequence, such as finding quantities of two objects to get two sole objects; using the objects to perform an action; then opening up a word list. Another type is our beloved "find and use." The puzzles are fun and relative to the storyline. You will climb an ice cliff with pick axes while moving around and matching pairs of symbols and objects to advance. You collect master scholar books in the locations; they can be well blended into the environment. You have a book symbol to the right of your inventory bar to show if you've collected one. The extras include a souvenir room, collectibles, and replays. I really enjoyed this game; it ran smooth and glitch free. I took off a star mainly because of a lack of customized settings, but I wish it had a journal to read the story. Worth the play!
