Great Place for Ideas and Beautiful Things, But... – One Kings Lane Review

I am from Chicago which is a vital, beautiful, sophisticated city that is often overlooked because it is between two coasts. As a life long Chicagoan with an enormous passion for my city, I get frustrated - annoyed - when my great city is overlooked in favor for the coasts. OKL overlooks great cities like Chicago in favor of NYC and LA and SFO. Don't get me wrong - I love all of those cities, have spent lots of time in them with family and friends and could even live in NYC (I can't do earthquakes! Sorry CA). OKL is headquartered in NYC and SFO, but they miss the boat when they ignore the middle of the country. Cities like Chicago, Austin (TX), Detroit, Minneapolis, Cleveland and Milwaukee are great places that deserve profiling. Trendsetters live in these cities as well. Enough with the coasts. I think the prices are high, the furniture all looks the same after a while and there is enough navy blue and grey decor to fill up a thousand homes. Tufted. Everything is tufted. The most interesting stuff is vintage, but it can be prohibitively expensive. Everything is beautifully curated and lovely, but it all blends together and looks the same after a while. The iPad app doesn't work as well as it could. Links die and it takes forever for stuff to load. I wish I could sort my favorites. Annoyed that I can't. I wish I could search for "black and white photography" and actually have b/w photographs pop up in the results. I wish that when I searched for "chinoiserie" I would get just chinoiserie themed things in the results. Tufted navy velvet benches are not chinoiserie. My absolute favorite feature is the DIY makeovers and projects by Megan Pflug. The Weekend Decorator links are dead on the iPad app. I had to look at all of them on my laptop. She is so talented. I wish that they featured 1000 more projects she has done. I can't get enough. I have made some purchases and have been pleased. I haven't bought furniture, but I imagine that they do a great job delivering or they wouldn't be in business. I like Etsy for products of similar quality and lower cost than OKL. But I will stick around to see what the garden and outdoor season brings.
