You go Terry Cavanaugh! – Don't Look Back Review

A hidden gem! I've played a couple of Terry Cavanaugh's other games and loved them. Super Hexagon was a lot of fun and VVVVVV kept me up waaaay past bedtime. This is the first game of his where I've felt like the story shined above the gameplay. The others were exemplars of solid control, gameplay, and design. Don't Look Back offers something a little different. The control isn't as tight, the level design isn't as solid, but the experience as a whole shines. I believe that is due to the integration of story, portraying themes of love, loss, remembrance, and grief in a simple and beautiful way. It is the video game equivalent of a haiku, conveying its message succinctly with a deep understanding of the form. Please keep making games, Terry Cavanaugh. And don't be afraid to tell stories.
