Slow, buggy, confusing user interface, poor UPnP implementation – Neutron Music Player Review

I bought this app in the hopes of using it with my WDTV live and music on my NAS box. The WDTV live has a pass-through capability where it will send music files directly from the NAS to the decoders in your preamp via HDMI. This is absolutely the best way to listen to audio, as the D/A conversion takes place with high-quality hardware DA converters just before it hits the amplifier. With this app, all of the d/a conversion takes place on your phone and the audio is either streamed via airplay which is limited to 16/44 or to your UPnP device as an analog signal. With the decoding taking place on the phone, it shortens battery life drastically and heats up the phone and no matter how great their software decoders may be, it's not going to match the high-end hardware decoders that are in your preamp. So if you're into high-end audio, this app is not for you. Both 8 player and Media:connect support true UPnP implementation by passing through the digital file to your renderer. I also could not keep my WDTV live selected as a render. The app kept deselecting it and crashing bouncing me back to the home screen. In addition, as others have noticed the interface is extremely confusing and not very user-friendly. The scrolling out the app is slow and not very smooth 5-s), so it's very easy to make a wrong selection. I gave it two stars because for some uses if you are direct connecting it to your speaker it might be a useful app. The interface is still slow, confusing, and buggy. I ended up requesting a refund for my purchase.
