Card Dungeon – Card Dungeon Review

To be fair I bought this app in hopes to emulate the computer game Card Hunter, so this review is heavily biased. Card dungeon is an interesting dungeon crawler with several visual impairments that repel me from the game. The art style is very underwhelming, even for an iOS game. I understand they are trying to achieve a specific style, but at some times some of the cards just look like something pulled directly from Microsoft paint, with no shading or details whatsoever. The font is another problem, as (on the iPhone 5s) the numerals indicating your health and mana on your character are very small and difficult to read. They tried to adopt a zoom in system for cards such as Hearthstone uses, but there are so many cards it becomes a pain to zoom in every time you need to check the effects of attacks. The game throws you into the first dungeon without explanation. This may be to emulate the games of old, but it's frustrating as the game has many small mechanics, such as being able to move two tiles only after all monsters are killed in the room, that you must figure out for yourself. It also never explained the mana system, so I spent some time trying to figure out why I couldn't use any attack. On a different note, the game uses all "spell" cards, meaning every attack or spell you use costs mana. This entails that if you run out of mana and don't have a mana regeneration spell, you can't use attacks at all. While this is easy to avoid, the lack of explanation of the mana systems may leave beginners having me to restart the game. This is a good structure for a game, but I would advise avoiding purchase until the developers work on the aforementioned issues.
