Absorbing – Sleep Furiously Review

Sleep Furiously is the first word game I've seen that combines the random elements of Scrabble or Boggle with sentence construction instead of simply forming words -- and it's quite absorbing. I keep sneaking time with the game and sessions often go longer than I thought because I can't seem to put it down. Like Mad Libs, the player creates amusing nonsense sentences, but, unlike Mad Libs, it has the player find long sentences for higher scores from a grid of displayed words that are replaced as the game goes on. Many of the words chosen will appeal to a younger audience (wizards, dinosaurs, ugly, gnomes, amazingly, clobber), but the playing of the game can be quite sophisticated, embedding sentences as much as possible for the highest points. Because the next word must always be touching the last one in the grid, it can also be quite a challenge to scan the grid for a possible route. There is a timed mode for speed, a moves mode that allows 5 sentences, and an endless mode. If you want a game that will a engage either adults or young learners, and can slyly draw them into making complex sentences without saying the words "adjective clause," this is a great choice. Quirkily addictive. A solid five stars.
