I keep dying – 1 Dark Room Review

I love this game but every time I embark, I die. I press on the small box to defend myself and nothing happens. It's very frustrating. You can't progress in the game at all. I have over 18000 wood, hundreds of all other supplies, medicine, etc. but can't do anything but die when I go out.
