Simple in a good way

elgrego1939

Very simple and clean interface. Easy to use, no clutter, and no gimmicky stuff as exists in some other meditation timers I've tried. So far I quite like it. One bug I've noticed: it writes data to the Health database even in cases when it shouldn't. For example, if you don't complete the full meditation time, it records the full meditation time anyway (10 min actual is recorded as 15 min planned, for example). If you accidentally start the timer and then stop it, data (the full planned time that the timer was going to run) is recorded. Etc. One request: the timer seems to stop if you lock the screen, so you have to have the screen on. I like to meditate with the phone on vibrate (and locked) and Do Not Disturb turned on (fewer distractions, saves battery power, etc). It would be nice if the timer ran and the notification sounds played despite all of that.

Great App

I love this app. It is straight forward and too the point. Has great options for timing and intervals. I have been using it for a couple years now. The new update with HealthKit integration is a great bonus! Thanks!

Simply perfect timer

Bells, but no whistles: a clean and simple meditation timer, with the essential features and nothing extraneous. An excellent sitting timer modeled on zendo sounds and practice. You can set preparation time in seconds, a session length, and an optional interval in minutes or percentage time of the session. For each you can select from the usual zendo assortment of bells and blocks. Best of all, you can indicate the number of times to repeat the sound, so you can have the three strikes of the small bell to start. It does not make you sign into a web site or create any accounts. It doesn't track you or your time in any way. It doesn't have ambient sounds or guided meditations. Beautiful and spare, the interface is simple to use. The perfect timer.

Nearly perfect meditation timer.

Just try it. Simple, beautiful, intuitive, with just one feature executed well. Update a year later: Still great. Minimalist, just what you need for seated meditation, zen or otherwise. The visual timer option is also handy for letting your significant other know when you'll be available again without interrupting you. I use it almost every morning. That said, if you want voice-guided meditation, meditation instruction, social features, or long-term tracking, this isn't the right app.

Minimalist timer

This timer dies most of what I want with a simple, clean interface and no extra in-app purchases. The options for silent chimes or vibrations are also welcome. Two things that would really make it shine: 1. Timer should be adjustable in one-min increments instead of just five-min 2. It would be nice to be able to select a color for the Zen circle to fill in instead of just black (similar to Bodhi Timer on Android)

Simple and great

Simple and works well. Excuse the pun, but it had just the right amount of bells.

Nice, but a couple of bugs

Twumfp

While I can set which bell to use, I can't change the number of times they ring and whether or not to show the countdown. Attractive and visually quiet. I hope the dev continues to work on this, making it visually quieter and fixing those small bugs. I really like the modern enso.

Not good

Dharmamama

The timer is set for five-minute intervals only, so if you want to meditate for, say, 12 minutes, that option is not there. The sounds are jarring and unnatural. A chime should reverberate and diminish, but this chime is just a "clang". Deleted the app immediately.

Great for a free app

This is simple and effective, great for no cost. Being able to hide the timer is a nice feature.

Great simple app

Just downloaded and used this app for a sitting. It is excellent and exactly what I was looking for -- no frills, just the option to select a sound that I like (out of 7 choices), set the prep and session time, and start sitting! It also has the option to set number of times the sound gets played (1-3) during start or end, as well as the option for intervals.
