Your Move for iPad

Your Move is the FICS interface that I wanted, but couldn't find on the iPad. The design is clean and simple, and the controls are as non-intrusive as possible. The pieces are original illustrations created exclusively for Your Move based on old chess books.

The Free Internet Chess Server is one of the oldest and biggest chess servers online. At any given time there are hundreds of games going on, people from all over the world, playing chess.

With Your Move you can connect as a guest or with your FICS account to track your game history and rating. A FICS account is optional and is not necessary to play, but will allow the server to keep track of your wins and losses and assign you a rating. After each game Your Move will post your rating to the global leaderboard, so you can see how you rate against the world.

With Your Move you can seek a game using your preferred settings or browse existing seeks to find a game. You can browse and challenge specific players to create private games.

If you don’t feel like playing, you can observe games in progress using Your Move. Tap any game you want to watch from the list of games being played, and you will start observing it and receiving updates. Switch between games you are observing by swiping the board to the left or right. You can unlock the board and allow the display to scroll to the last updated game.

Keep track of the games you are playing and watching in the "My Games" tab. During a game you can click on any move in the "History" panel to view that move. You can also chat with other chess players in the FICS chat room.

Additionally, Your Move lets you publish your games online so they can be saved and shared with your friends.

NOTE: Your Move does NOT have integrated AI. You CANNOT play against a computer, and you CANNOT play locally against another person. Your Move is strictly an FICS client.

very smooth interface

As the app market gets more mature we see more quality games coming on the market and this is definitely one of them. I am a designer myself and I must say Your Move is aesthetically and interface wise a top notch application! Buttons don't get in my way like other chess games and I can focus merely on the game itself. I also like how I can play multiple games and scroll between these games easily with a swipe. My only problem is, there's a very very little lag when I scroll between games which I think because of FICS' large player base. Overall, I recommend this app to chess lovers for an immersive experience.

Promising, but has a loong way to go
demetriusnunes

This Fics client is really an unfinished beta version. It has potential, but lacks a ton of essential features, like remembering your Fics account, handling piece movement and resuming games in a more reliable way and having a seek graph. Not worth the 5 bucks I've paid for it yet but I hope it someday will be if the developer keeps improving.

I've been spoiled by Babas Chess
HeSynergy

Cannot challenge specific players, or save by adjourning...Etc. Please spend some more time on this and give us BC features I am asking for a refund... It is simply NOT up to Babas chess standards Nice try though

Great looking client

This is a great looking client and is really fun to use. However, it lacks some key functionality that I expect from a FICS client. I'd like to be able to see my rating, change my formula, and have a but more power when seeking. I did make a lot of mistakes when moving pieces, please add the ability to drag pieces as an option. Auto-login would be appreciated as well. Overall a refreshing look on a FICS client. Beats the heck out of iChessPack HD even with it's lack of some functionality. I think add a few key ways to interact with console easily and we have winner.

Love it.

No frills client that lets you play some serious chess (or in my case, take a serious butt-whipping). You can also just lurk and peek in on other games. It would be nice to see some of the features mentioned in the previous review added, but I can't deduct a star for that. It does what it's built to do very well. I much prefer playing other people than an AI. This lets me do that whenever I want.

Constantly Looses Connection
makethings

The interface is cute (although ICC is better), but the constant connection loss makes this app unusable

Unbelievably bad

So bad congress looks good in comparison

Good app

Works well and does what's advertised! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the console is almost mandatory with a FICS app and that's missing. I use this fairly regularly over WIFI and don't experience the connection loss mentioned in another review. That being said, this is a basic app to play on FICS. Not many frills. There are missing features, including chat, turn on/off channels, observe lecturebot, wesbot, finding a top rated game and so on. Adding some of these will make this into a great app.

Works great for me.

You can jump on frrechess.org to see how to use the command line. For example to say something to your last opponent, type: say hello Or say good game or whatever.

Fix It!

I get logged off ... "Connection closed" immediately I'm not happy for that sole reason.... a Major one! REMOVE this app, for IPad play; On another past playing attempt, this app would not allow or move to an attempted castling position; I had to forfeit a rated game! Now , it cannot maintain a server connect to FICS, more than one second!
