Yachting Weather

“Yachting Weather” is the cost-free and user friendly weather App for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad to receive precise sea weather predictions for the next 3 days (2 days on iPad) - or with an upgrade to “Yachting Weather EXPERIENCE”- for the next five days.
Category Price Seller Device
Weather Free ESIRION AG iPhone, iPad, iPod

You receive all marine weather predictions according to your current GEO location or any other sea area worldwide determined by GPS, a single click on the map tool or by manual input.
Whether you are sailing, motor yachting or doing other water sport activities, you can configure “Yachting Weather” exactly to your needs with numerous options.
The forecasts for the next three days come in six hour intervals (for five days in three hour intervals with “Yachting Weather EXPERIENCE”) and are available worldwide.
Due to the high spatial resolution of 0,15° to 0,25° (which is comparable to approx 12x12 sea miles). Conventional GFS weather models work with a resolution of 0,5° to 1° and assume equal weather conditions for a sea area of 60 x 60 nautical miles. On open sea or nearby the coastline a high resolution forecast for wind and waves can be advantageous. Changing winds, gusts or rough sea within short distances could be missed by large scale forecast models.
Besides a higher spatial resolution WEATHER365 weather models integrate topographical, geographical and vegetal characteristics - especially of the coastal areas - which have influence on weather trends and weather evolution. Even bathymetry data are included because of their impact on wave height and length.

You receive exact predictions for your designated position.
All weather data are based on optimized WRF and Wave Watch III weather models and calculated and updated four times a day by WEATHER365.
(wave data is only available for overseas territories, inland waters are not covered)

With an Upgrade to “Yachting Weather EXPERIENCE” you get the predictions of the professionals:

• Wind speed

Great app for yachtsmen
The meat king

Used it for the past 2 weeks and found it accurate and very useful. Would love to see an auto location function

NONSENSICAL UI & SETINGS
fed up with improvements

DEVELOPERS: Please READ, and DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS APP! No professional weather forecast defaults wind direction as the direction the wind is blowing “to”. NONE. Wind direction is ALWAYS stated as “out of”. ALWAYS. No exceptions. Well, except this app. And, that is not “inverted” - your default is what is inverted! Also, who states precipitation as “mm/in”, or “L/m2”? How about a straight depth in inches, mm or meters? Why would someone endeavor to write an app about a subject of which they seem to have so little apparent knowledge (either weather or sailing)? Have you ever heard of distances being stated in terms of “Metrical/Imperial”? Me neither! How do I get nautical vs. statute miles? And, what does “mp/h” even mean for speed? MAKE KNOTS AT OPTION FOR ALL SPEED SETTINGS! It should even be the DEFAULT! Sailors don’t use miles per hour or meters met hour - THEY USE KNOTS! There are undefined symbols for waves, with numbers that are frightening. What does “7s 9m” represent? It isn’t listed in the key. Makes me not trust any app from ESIRION.

Insufficient help info
DoogieBo

I supposed the forecast is only as good as the data received from the weather services, but as I write, seas are running 90 degrees from what the forecast shows, and ha for most of the day. The descriptions of the forecast icons are too vague. “Wave heights” - is that peaks, averages, or what? A single number for wave heights is minimally helpful. What about swells? I find the app minimally helpful, mostly because it isn’t even remotely accurate!

Useful app
Jlblan2

When pin is dropped, you need the Id of that data source. Also, need to be able to slid the pin around. Buoy data is a must in future updates

Pretty decent
Bug out box

If you just need to get an idea of what conditions may be for a particular area this app does the job. I use it on my Phone when I am considering a fishing trip and am not by a computer. It is simple to use on an IPhone or iPad .

No help

I am sitting on my boat in Lake Erie and this app can't find weather for my location.

Good!

Great app!

Good
Fathomp

Just wish instead of 3 days of weather forecasts it would be better if it was a 10 day forecast.

Yachting???
McDuzzy

I just updated hoping for more information. It seems a yachting program would provide wave height info.

Good and bad
Mitch910

Here's the good: I get the most accurate wind forecasts using this app. I drop a pin on the map in the area I do most if my sailing and I think it leveraged forecasts from surrounding areas to get the forecast for this one spot. More accurate than the five other apps I use. Here's the bad: I can get a forecast for 11am and then 5pm, not in between. Apparently, if I pay the $8 for the pro version I can also get 2pm. Really?! That's it?! And to the reviewer who complained wave height isn't in there, well I see it. Might be only for certain locations.
