In XCOM: The Board Game, you and up to three friends assume the roles of the leaders of the elite, international organization known as XCOM. It is your job to defend humanity, quell the rising panic, and turn back the escalating alien invasion coordinated by the game’s innovative, free digital companion app.
Each round, the app tracks the time you have allotted to respond to each task, forcing you to think quickly, even as you must carefully measure the strategic implications of your decisions. However, the app does far more than track time. Its design is integrated deep into gameplay, and it permits both a mutable alien invasion plan and a dynamic turn structure.
When you start a game of XCOM: The Board Game, the app randomly selects one of five different invasion plans. These plans represent the different, overarching strategies that the aliens might employ as they send forces against the earth’s different continents, create catastrophes, and target your base, pressing back against your resistance efforts.
Destroy UFOs. Research alien technology. Defend your base. Uncover the alien invasion plan. Should you fail, humanity is doomed.
The game could be fun, but the apps resolution cuts important parts of the content on an iPhone. I hope this will be fixed.
The game is pretty good and fun tp play. The app on the other hand leaves much to be desired. It is locked in one direction no matter what. Which means it underutilizes the screen and also means that a charge cord cannot be used while playing. Maybe on a huge screen iPhone or other big phone it might not be so bad but it is still screen locked. This needs fixing before enough people quit using it and you fold. I see no reason for this issue beyond laziness.
This game is a big hit with our family & friends! It doesn't take too long to complete a game, but be forewarned, this is only a companion app! You must own XCOM: The Board Game! A lot of the low-star reviews are probably folks who weren't aware of that fact. The base game is $40-$50, and I also highly recommend the $20 expansion pack (the expansion will increase the difficulty of this already challenging game, FYI).
This is a really nice COMPANION app of an extremely challenging and innovative board game. It's a companion app but not a standalone game! Those who gave this a 1-star obviously had no idea what this app is for.
It just a tutorial.... with about 255 MB.... the issue is that the same tutorial is in the real game :(...so why to bother downloading it again!!
Both sound fx and music don't work, even though turned up to max volume. Is there anyway to fix? Tried both on iPhone 5 and iPad mini, same problem.
Why is this locked to portrait mode? Allow landscape for more review stars.
FFG really dropped the ball with the core game design. The Commander role should be running the app and the budget should have been managed through it as a result. The game itself is ok, but the app feels very hollow as a whole.
