*Unfortunately the 7Timer! service that powers Xasteria is down for technical reasons, and the maintainers tell me it will take a while to restore (they are sending their apologies, the issue is beyond their direct control). Xasteria offers a temporary link to alternative weather data until the 7Timer! service is restored.*
Xasteria brings the Astronomical-oriented ASTRO weather forecast of the service 7Timer! to your iOS device. You can use your device GPS for a forecast of your location, or enter manual coordinates.
ISS passes for your location are also shown (data from heavens-above.com).
7Timer! is mainly derived from the NOAA/NCEP-based numeric weather model, the Global Forecast System (GFS) and gives you a forecast for the entire globe with a resolution of about 20km at 3-hour intervals.
The data provided includes:
-Sun/Moon rise/set & twilight times.
-Moon phase.
-Cloud cover.
-Astronomical seeing.
-Atmospheric transparency.
-Temperature.
-Humidity.
-Rain/Snow.
-Atmospheric instability.
-Wind.
Xasteria provides you with a choice of 3 visualization modes for the data: the new 7Timer! ASTRO graphics, the color-stripe graphics similar to some other astro-forecast services and a raw text mode.
Xasteria is available in English and Greek. If you would like to translate it to your own language, please contact the author.
A special version of Xasteria is included in the Polar Scope Align Pro app, taking advantage of that app's night vision mode and location manager.
I would appreciate a quick review on iTunes if you are using the app - if you have a specific request/suggestion you can also try the official app page at http://astro.ecuadors.net
Still one of the best apps out there for space and atmospheric effects and deserving of every star given in this review.
Using Xasteria tonight, and the app is nicely forecasting my viewing conditions. Thank you/Ευχαριστώ πολύ
Great easy to use astronomy app. Simple but all the options you'll really need.
I just downloaded the app so I don't know how it will perform long term but it found my location accurately and shows all the data I was hoping it would. I think it will be a helpful tool for my backyard stargazing.
This app is perfect for astrophotographers to check visibility of the stars to avoid staying up to 3am to find coudy skies. Highly recommend.
Review updated! Thank you so much to the developer for implementing a temporary fix! There was a server problem causing the report not to update. It's great to be able to use this app again.
7Timer is down for few months, can you use Meteobule’s astronomical data on Xasteria? It looks Meteoblue's data is more detailed than 7Timer.
