How to get tokens?

It keeps saying that I'm achieving more tokens but they never show up, and it keeps saying I don't have enough when I try to use them...? So I'm stuck on 3 letter words and it's getting really boring doing the same 3 letter words continuously.

Disappointing that there are no instructions. Also don't want to pay to make anything but basic moves! Oh well....

I love this game super fun but why all the sudden when I go to change a letter out does it freeze and it will not allow me to play the tile or take it back I have no other issues with my phone or my other apps?
