wishoTouch comes with its own full-screen kanji handwriting pad. You need to know the stroke order, but results are sorted in such a way that most of the time you don't need to draw the whole character. You can also find kanji by radical, number of strokes, meaning etc., rotate the device to quickly thumb through related characters, and watch interactive stroke-order animations for 6,355 kanji.
And that's not all. Tight integration with a word dictionary lets you seamlessly jump between a kanji and its compounds. This integration makes use of multitouch gestures: touching a kanji shows its details, while touch-holding gives you other options.

It’s ok and has solder cool features such as widgets, but as one of the mode expensive Japanese apps / dictionaries on the App Store, I’m not quite satisfied yet. 1) no automatic text analyzer to give text with kanji a furigana reading 2) no iOS dark mode support yet 3) widgets are glitchy and again without dark mode I’m looking forward to seeing this improve but the free imiwa still has certain superior features such as number one, mentioned above.

With Jishop being released, this app better cut it's price by about $12, and that still might not be enough, because it has twice as many kanji (and then some), and tons of compounds, and so much more depth to the meanings / definitions than this app. This is a so-so beginner kanji app, no more than that. There's only one Japanese app that costs as much as this one, and that's "Japanese" by Codefromtokyo, and it is in a class by itself. There is no possible way that anyone could justify the price of this app. Unfortunately I got ripped off because the interface looked pretty cool, and I had hopes for it, which it fails to meet, spectacularly. If you want an app that does what this one does, and plenty more, try something like Shinkanji, and save yourself $14, or the above mentioned Jishop. Which by the way has a free version with 1000 kanji, and a $5 version that is waaayyy better than this.

ok well this app.. is the possibly the greatest japanese app out there in general! It has every kanji that anyone could ever come upon (6000 about), i see some negative reviews for this app and i wonder what the hell were they looking at???? this is clearly the best, i use it just about every day to study kanji and words! if you dont like it then you have something wrong with you.

Update: Upon further use I've decided this app is pretty good, there are a lot of good features. However, they are poorly explained and the price is still high. Work on the recognition and the app will be a steal. UpdateUpdate: So, I've gotted used to simply using the radical lookup. It's quite good I was going to up the stars on this review, but then I downloaded the new modules...... The examples are great, worth 5 bucks. However, the OCR doesn't work at all. I've tried all kinds of different fonts, about 20 kanji in all and just one has been right. I thought it might be good for train stations with no Furigana, but it still has a long way to go. UpdatedUpdateUpdate: Latest version crashes all the time. I have no trouble with ant other app.

I think the program is okay overall, but I think it would be even better if you can either take a picture of multiple kanji, say a whole word for example-尊敬- instead of one kanji at a time. Or be able to take multiple pictures to search for a word.
I really hate the gui/bugs

Until today this was the only app that had strokes recognition on iphone. It was always painful to use. lots of copy/paste opetations, bugs, slowness. Fortunelly Midori dictionary came out today for the iPhone. It works perfectly. It has much more features including stroke recognition, names database, good ui, etc. I can finally get rid of WishoTouch today:)

Needs voice recognition so a person could say a word and it's kanji is looked up, kind of like google voice search.

I'm a Japanese national, and speak the language fluently, but since I've been in the U.S. since age 5, kanji throws me off every now and then. This is a perfect tool for the likes of me.

Sadly, this app only recognizes kanji if its written in perfect stroke order and with really neat writing. For twenty bucks? What did I just buy? I'm assuming most people who use the app are just learning Japanese, so probably don't know perfect stroke order! Also the app layout is difficult to navigate to see kanji meaning in hiragana. Please make an update to make kanji more recognizable based on the end product rather than stroke order...otherwise I sadly just wasted my money and want a refund!
