WheelMasks

WheelMasks is an utility to create harmonic color schemes that will help you improve your paintings and illustrations.

Utilities Free Roger Tallada Solano iPhone, iPad, iPod

Create a wheel mask by drawing a shape over the color wheel that limits the palette of colors available for your illustration, providing you with an harmonic color scheme.

Unlike traditional palette creation apps, WheelMasks’ palettes are not limited to just a few colors, making it an ideal tool for the digital painter and colorist.

Use a preset mask or create new ones by transforming them or creating them from scratch. There are preset masks for the following color schemes: triad, square, tetradic, complementary, accent, split and analogous.

Configure the color wheel to your liking. Chose how many hues you want, how many levels for each hue and the brightness or, when available, the saturation.

You can see the color definitions, either as RGB values or Hex, in the extended palette view. You can also copy those values to the pasteboard.

A one time In-App purchase enables WheelMasks' full functionality:

- Choose from several color modes for the wheel: RGB, RYB, RYGB and Equiluminant.
- Keep an archive of the wheel masks you've created.
- Send your wheel masks to any image editing app that is capable of opening PNG files or export the swatches as an Adobe Swatch Exchange file or as Procreate's swatches.

All the modes but Equiluminant have three variants:

- Normal: a typical color wheel with saturation or brightness, you can choose, decreasing to the center of the wheel.
- Chroma: a color wheel with decreasing chroma to the center that keeps the same lightness in each hue, with lightness decreasing along the wheel from yellow to its opposite hue.
- Grey: a color wheel with colors converging to a neutral grey at the center.

The Equiluminant mode has two variants, HSLuv and HPLuv. The HSLuv color space is an extension of CIELUV, a color space that attempts perceptual uniformity. The lightness of every hue in the color wheel is perceptually the same, unlike the lightness of other color spaces which varies from hue to hue.

Paid For Exporting
critraider

Paid for the exporting so I could easily export palettes to Procreate. The first export worked fairly easily. I received an auto update from Procreate for Procreate 5 and now Wheel Masks only exports blank files to Procreate. Would love to give five stars, but would like the app to be compatible with Procreate 5 in the near future so I can continue to use what I paid for.

Very Practical Creative Tool

WheelMasks is a great value! I am a composer and producer, and I do all of the artwork for my albums and apps with Procreate. WheelMasks makes the task of building a custom color palette super simple and fun. I reported a small bug related to exporting palettes to Procreate, and the developer replied immediately and then posted an update within a few days.

Update Got Palettes Working

Despite developer response, the palettes from this app only worked after his app was updated and procreate was not.

Excellent!

What I like best about the myriad of great stuff that WheelMasks can do is create palettes to export to Procreate. I can create several palettes of the selected hues in the configuration I need, using the HUSL Equiluminant setting. I can create the same palette in however many values I want: meaning I have a palette of lights, mid tones, and darks. So I have many darks of the same value to make interesting shadows and get edges to turn. Reproducible hues so they can be found again. Same in mids and lights....like having your pastels laid out in front of you. The colors can be found again. LOVE IT!

Very nice!

Using a gamut mask is a great way to improve the color harmony of your paintings or drawings. I've been using a manual method of creating them for years. Having an app like this available is wonderful! It's easy to use. Export options require an in app purchase, but it's worth it. Excellent app!

A wonderful addition to the artists's selection

I began looking for a gamut/yurmby color wheel after reading James Gurney's "Color and Light" and this has thus fare been a worthy tool in the search for the perfect color schemes for an illustrative painting. I have already recommended to friends and shall continue to do so!

This is what I've been looking for!!!

I'm heading into event planning and this app is amazing it not only has the color wheel but you can play with the different color pairings when doing parties and such. Triadic l, complimentary, square, etc it's great too to show and involve your potential client in the planning stages!!! Awesome!!!

Indispensable for Procreate

Clean design, easy to navigate UI, and Procreate import. Well worth the $2.99 to upgrade. Thanks for your work on this, really enjoying how easy this app is to use, and there's next to no "clutter" or ugly UI elements to get in the way.

So helpful for me!

The Best

After only 5 minutes, I can say without doubt that this is the best color picker / color harmony tool on the App Store. This tool does more than any other I've found for creating color harmonies. The interface is decent, it has a tutorial/built-in help, and it can export a color palette directly into Procreate. My search (and it was a long one) for a color harmony app on my iPad Pro stops here. It's time to go make some art!
