A news outlet that focuses on West Hawaii could be a great resource but this app is poorly designed. News stories aren’t organized for easy reading, the format looks like it was designed by middle school students, and much of the “news” is out of date—especially problematic when I’m looking for arts and entertainment events. How helpful is it to learn that a musician is performing—three weeks ago? With even a small redesign and someone pulling old news, this app could be useful.
This app has plenty of potential. 6 months ago, it’s worst problem was outdated news. It used to pop up ads randomly and I am okay with that. Now with iOS 14 they have bigger ad problems popping up constantly. I really wish someone would take charge who can care about functionality and user interface. Maybe solicit some beta testers if they don’t have the resources to do it themselves.
I was a long time subscriber to the print issue. I’ve been following the website and recently got the app. It opens to non-“top stories” that are pretty much impossible for me to find. I always go to the “print edition” for news instead, and enjoy reading the paper that way, and like to see the ads as well! I wish that there was a “breaking news” section for stories that are updated during the day. I first check the website for those, and then a Honolulu news source when I don’t see info.
I anticipated moving to the Big Island for years and found the newspaper gave me a sense of connection to my new home years before moving. The local focus, sprinkled with national news, is now a must read over morning coffee.
Love our connection to paradise, from daily "island life" to the right natural balance of news and what really matters... Aloha... -Jai C
WWT has come a long way to be a more balanced newspaper. It seems to invite more credible opinions to cover both sides. This is what we need in this state to be fair
