A Fine Tool For Preserving Articles Of Interest

Aguilarojo

One of the challenging aspects of maintaining an accurate location of webpages is the fact that most of us rely upon the prior settings of how a .PDF record of a webpage prints out or is saved. This usually means that the URL is listed/recorded on one of the four corners of the page along with the time and date of it's printing. Invariably when the URLs are short this method is sufficient but when the URLs are longer they may become truncated so as not to over-run allocated fields on a page which also means you lose the URL. This app applies the old practice applied in the typewriter era when excellent secretaries dedicated the first page of every document to recording a document's title and also it's precise location within an office storage system. This app resurrects that helpful practice by dedicating the entire first page to recording the document's title and it's URL regardless how long that URL is. A very helpful detail. I have been shocked to learn that some URLs are so long as to require full paragraphs nearly 6-9 lines (or longer) of the first page! This app preserves them as they actually are. In the event that the page becomes relocated or the domain ceases to exist this app will maintain, at least in your records, where the original article, or reference, used to be at the time you had that webpage printed into PDF format using this app. Some interesting options: • You can change the page size the app uses from regular 8.5" x 11" to other page sizes which will change the appearance of the .pdf and allow it to hold more content while also avoiding an odd appearance. • The right button allows a faithful reproduction of the page as is. • The left button strips out unnecessary additional stuff which many webpages use which have nothing to do with the article of interest producing a "Reader" page which actually allows you to read the page very easily without unnecessary distractions. You can decide to create a .pdf of that version of the article as well, just remember to press the button on the lower right. The left button also does some very interesting other things, a true "Easter Egg", for those interested in one article but unwilling to commit to purchase an annual, or multi-year subscription, for that one article. If you come across such a situation then use the left button, afterwards remember to use the right button to actually create the .pdf. The downside of this method is that although the title of the article and the rest of the article are preserved usually the actual author is stripped out. However as you'll always have the URL it may be an acceptable trade off. It cannot capture videos or gifs but there are other apps to capture those. It is a fine app for building a personal digital reference library. The URL and the original article may someday disappear off the web due to archiving, or some other reason, and sometimes companies will charge to have them accessed but you'll have your copy which you preserved and be able to avoid that. Indeed, if you used the "Reader" option when you made the .pdf in the first place the document you preserve could be more easily read than their version! A great plus!

an excellent, efficient ...

source to manipulate, save and retrieve text.

This is a good one!

Was looking for an app to make pdf's from webpages. I took a chance on this one after reading reviews concerning similar apps. You can perform the pdf conversion either through Safari or independently via the built in browser. As someone else mentioned, I've not seen the "text cleanup" function available in any other apps, although it's possible some do offer it. Nice feature. Paper size is adjustable too. For the money and features you can't go wrong for .99 cents!

They Took Away Bookmarking.

Why in the world would you remove the website bookmarking feature? That is beyond absurd and inane in my opinion. Any browser worth its salt, even a PDF creating one like this would have a bookmark function. And this used to but you for some ludicrous reason removed this feature/function. I'm sticking by my one-star rating until this feature is put back into Instaweb. Other than that though, the app is just wonderful.

Great PDF converter - updated

Update: using this App more and more as it allows you to capture the text only - most other PDF apps capture the advertisements and often places them directly over the article. This one is top notch! Previous review: Accidentally noticed the extract the text button - this makes the app. The other PDF converters I have don't do this including the higher profile ones. Very well done. Simple layout which was nice. The only thing this app needs is larger text for the file names. They are smaller than the settings fonts.

You have to buy the “Save URLs” features

Judithdrive

It’s an in-app purchase for $1.99. Not mentioned anywhere on the app page.

Just what I needed.

App does as promised and does it well.

Great App, Amazing support!

I sent the developer a note today about a bug I discovered regarding in-app purchase of clickable links in just-released version 4.0, and, within a couple of hours, he thanked me for the bug report, said he had fixed the bug & submitted an updated app to the App Store (takes a day or two to appear in the store), & provided a workaround until then (click Restore Purchase button). Amazing response from a developer in Puerto Rico, which has been devastated by the hurricanes. I was surprised that he even had internet connectivity.
