COVERAGE
Weather reports are available for nearly anywhere in the world. If in doubt, go to http://forecast.io and try your location to see if you like the report.
Radar is currently North America only, but I expect to support more soon.
The hour forecast is currently limited to US, UK, Ireland.
DAILY COMPARISON
When you're getting dressed, what do you want to know?
"How does today compare with yesterday?"
Weather Nerd includes a nice daily comparison:
"Today is 9° cooler than yesterday. No rain."
This makes it easy to grab the right coat.
MINUTE-TO-MINUTE FORECAST
Weather Nerd also gives you minute-by-minute rain predictions for your exact GPS location. Powered Dark Sky's cutting edge "hyperlocal precipitation forecasting system", these reports show you a nice graph of the rain intensity for the next hour based on your exact location. For example, you might see:
"Light rain starting in 10 minutes, stopping 15 minutes later."
DAILY FORECAST
The daily forecast screen shows you a graph of the temperature, rain, and wind for today. Touch anywhere on the graph to view the forecast for a specific hour.
At the bottom of the screen you'll see the current temperature and other details like the high, low, chance of precipitation, wind speed, direction, moon phase, sunset, sunrise, humidity, etc.
WEEKLY FORECAST
The weekly forecast shows you a quick graph of the projected highs and lows for the next week, along with the chance of rain. Touch any day to view the full forecast for that day.
BEYOND 7 DAYS
Need to see the forecast for two weeks or two months out? No problem. Weather Nerd's calendar lets you view the forecast for any date within the next year.
NERD OUT
For the real weather nerds, the "Nerd Out" feature will list out ALL of the weather information.
NERD ALERTS
Weather Nerd lets you setup a daily weather forecast alert (in 15 minute intervals). You can turn the alert on/off for certain days of the week.
If you set your alert to 6pm or later, then the forecast will be for "tomorrow's" weather.
ABOUT THE WEATHER REPORTS
Most of the data for this app is powered by the unbelievable team at Forecast.io. They combine data from up to 18 different sources and use statistical analysis to create the most accurate forecast possible.
NERD WIDGETS
Some of you nerds like to use iPhone and iPad widgets. No problem. Weather Nerd comes packaged with 3 different widgets for your viewing pleasure including graphs for the "Next Hour", "Daily Overview", and "Upcoming Week".
Why a subscription? The average nerd checks weather 4-5 times a day. Over a year, that alone cost nearly 1 USD to our providers. That's not counting additional data used for radar tiles, alerts, widgets, watch, multiple devices, servers, etc. It would be completely unsustainable to charge a one time fee for a lifetime of data.

I am always trying new weather apps, but Weather Nerd is the only one that I use everyday.

The primary thing I want from a weather app is the ability to quickly determine how todays temp will compare to yesterdays, and if and when there may be any precipitation. Weather Nerd is ideally suited for that task because it presents these data in a single line graph, which the brain can process much faster than reading a lot of text (although there are also text summaries for those who prefer that). Most importantly, in the Today panel (within the main app) or the Day widget (for the iOS today view in notification center), the app uses a static x-axis for time (with 12 am or 3 am as the starting point, as chosen by the user) so you always can look at the same part of the graph to quickly determine forecasted conditions (for example, what will the temp be like at noon when I usually run, or will there be rain at 6 pm when I typically walk my dog) - whereas most other apps dynamically set the starting point of the x-axis as the current time, which makes a graph more difficult to interpret because your brain has to re-calibrate whenever you look at the graph. The app also has great line graphs for forecasts in the next hour and for tomorrow, and a bar graph for the entire week. It can automatically update to your current location. It can send you daily notifications with an overview of the days forecast. It integrates your calendar so you can check forecast during a critical event. It uses the excellent forecast.io data. The list of features goes on and on... Only things keeping it from getting 5 stars are: 1) text summary of weather in iphone/ipad app does NOT include amount of precipitation in primary view - such as 3 in. of snow. Instead one has to slide up to see it 2) various details accessible via sliding up (e.g., precipitation forecast, cloud cover, etc.) appear in different locations on screen for current day as opposed to future days (because on future dates the first slot is taken up by the date) - this makes it hard to get the info you quickly, and could easily be fixed by leaving the 1st slot empty, or listing “Today” or the date 3) Developer dropped support for Apple Watch... so I use carrot weather on the watch and weather nerd on iPhone/iPad

Horizontal Presentation Please

This is a fun app, different from all others and provides useful information . But why won’t it turn into horizontal format on my iPhone and iPad? It is annoying to either have to switch my iPad or read it on its side. This has to be an easy fix. It is a 5 stars app if this was not an issue. Henry
