Distracting and Restrictive App Design

Truth79775

The zooming of content as you scroll may be a neat trick for a developer to show off but it makes it difficult for the user to visually process the content when trying to quickly browse articles. The app doesn’t provide local news and does not match the content provided on the main site. The comments section has been removed from each article. What about the Real Estate section? Overall, this app is limiting and frustrating for the user and is not a viable alternative to the online site. If the Post would spend development time providing MORE content for their app rather than LESS then I’m sure it would be far more successful.

The search function is a joke!

jollyturns

It’s ridiculously difficult to be properly logged in the Washington Post on all the plethora of news apps on the iPhone. As a result I read part of a story in one app, then switch to the Washington Post app - where I’m logged in, and try to find the story. The problem is the search function doesn’t work! It shows me 2-3 months old stories which have nothing to do with what I’m searching for. The app itself shows only a limited number of stories, far fewer than the ones I find online through the news apps on my phone (Google News, the Apple News, Flipboard etc.) Come on Washington Post, please do something about it!

Failure to deliver

advo121

I have been in contact with both Apple and the Washington Post regarding my subscription and neither has responded. The subscription that I am paying for is not being provided. And since neither company cares about delivering what they are collecting my money for I guess they deserve a review.

Worst news navigation ever

EmptyDog

Yes I know that paper is dead but navigation will never die. And this navigation is horrible. I think it was designed for people who would never complain. I can’t imagine the intellect that would actually benefit from information presented in this infantile way.

Love the format of the iPad App

Seekonk MA

I am a long-time subscriber and regular reader of the N.Y. Times online edition, as well as other online media. I recently subscribed to The Washington Post to support great journalism which is vital to our democracy. I love the format of the iPad app. It is very readable—I love the horizontal scrolling through the major stories. It is nice having the traditional WP app as an alternative, but I now find myself starting my daily news consumption with the WP iPad app.

Useless without WiFi

Zqwtyvrhy

My data plan can easily accommodate reading WAPO mobile without a WiFi connection but the app won't allow it. This is the kind of thing that will cause me to cancel my subscription.

Still Hangs & Crashes

CG03026

IPhone 8 Version 11. App version 1.15.5 supposed to fix the very problem I have. App fails to load content, hangs, and then closes to the home screen. Too bad fixes either don’t fix or make matters worse. Bad coding followed by poor testing.

Pesky bugs

.brad.

I love the vivid imagery and crisp text of the app. The flow of story cards is cool as well. I also liked the customizable settings. Unfortunately my subscription is through my Amazon account, which means I need to sign in to my Amazon acct within the Washington post app, but when I click the amazon button, it just has a loading screen indefinitely. I’ve tried restarting the device, deleting the app and reinstalling it, nothing worked. So now I just use the Classic WaPo app and seems to not suffer from the same issue. Hope they see this feedback because otherwise it’s a pretty good app.

Beautiful

DotPdf

This is such a beautiful app across all platforms. The developers should be proud.

Layout wastes space, headshots uninformative

E.Scribo

The layout shows two or three articles at a time in columns. About half the screen is taken up with photos; default text size is tiny. A sidebar for navigation is cluttered with sponsored content and difficult to use; tiny white text on dark gray background is hard to read, font size doesn't change when article font is adjusted. Swiping to navigate moves articles in a swooshy, quease-inducing slosh, very unpleasant. Finding articles isn't easy at all! I'll most likely delete this app and use my browser to look at the Post. On the whole, the app seems overwrought and overthought.
