Excellent game but not truly FTP

Leeroy Gankins

Gameplay is great... Manages to walk an excellent line of being highly asymmetrical by any standard yet also very well balanced. Quite a few really interesting mechanics I've never seen before... Matchmaking has an annoying tendency of taking too long and pairing you over and over with the same person, but there's actually a pretty decent sized community so you aren't playing alone at least. But overall the play is very fun and quite fair. While not overly long, the campaign mode actually has a legitimately well written story too.. Interesting plot and the dialogue is actually extremely witty, I laughed heartily at multiple points. That said... Do NOT regard this as free to play... You cannot adequately play this without spending about 10 dollars. While you can grind a lot of free currency, the ability to spend it on anything but the weaker cards is locked behind a paywall... I'm not even sure how long it'd take to grind out the ability to participate in tournaments via common packs and Max 1 free gold pack a day. And while,I wouldn't say it's pay to win, if you don't buy in at all, spect to lose due to lack of card pools. If you look at this as a 10 dollar game with a free demo, I'd actually say it's top flight... Well worth it. But the monetization is really deceptive in an ugly way.

Too bad an otherwise great game has some serious problems

Rainseeker

If I wanted to play a quest I would have played it rather than skipping it. As it is I frequently get the same kind of quest again, which is really frustrating if I don’t play the faction or multiplayer. Just now I had to watch 8 commercials just to get a reasonable quest. Booooring! This will likely cause me to abandon the game if it’s not quickly changed. Other than that... Multiplayer rewards people dropping out of the game, it causes a tie... unless it’s been fixed. It was extremely frustrating to play so I haven’t been back. The actual mechanics of the game are fun! Looking forward to better multiplayer matches. Maybe allow us to play single player while the system looks for players to match up with?

Better than most CCGs

MikeS_ATL

It's a solid single player game. It takes a bit to really get the hang of it, but that's a good thing and is part of what makes it a fun game. The mechanics are solid and are unique among CCGs. The dialog, quotes, and historical references are interesting. Importantly, the guilds are differentiated and asymmetrical both aesthetically and strategically. I'm not so sure about multi player. Pack and in-game resource system is good. Card upgrade system is meh partly due to the nature of the cards.

Not a new game at all

Sword of the occult

This game already has been around for more than 4 years at Kongregate and it has a few “limited” cards which you cannot get anymore. If you are a collector like me, it will disappoint you. The game itself is fun though

Helpful Tech Support

shinesteel

The tech support team was very helpful with restoring my profile after reinstalling the app in an attempt to get around an error. Thanks for the quick response. I must have a new profile though, because I couldn't update my previous review after the problem was resolved.

Very solid game, % chance on cards a flaw

recksalot

I love this game for its take on dominion and the really different playstyles and feel of each faction. Vestipole feels like classic dominion mechanics, and the other factions diverge off that. One downside - I loathe the % chance on cards. There’s a lot of randomness from drawing cards from a deck and what restocks in your bank. Cards that have a 15% chance to do X or 50% chance to be destroyed is too much rng. Those mechanics could be made more elegant I wish they did more card rebalancing too, but I do rave about how cool this game idea is
